In 30 years of travel to Europe, we have found many tiny gems of doll
museums, some in the most unlikely places.
# 1 - Das Kleine Puppenundspielzeugmuseum,
Hagnau, Germany The 2006 exhibit was entitled Home and Hearth - Dear to my Heart. The exhibit
focussed on the learning of household skills through toys. Doll kitchens,
various shops, laundry and sewing toys from the 19th and early 20th
centuries were on display. In 2007 the museum opened their doors for the special exhibition "The Way Old Dolls Lived." The exhibit will run from April 8th to September 30th. Today there are few opportunities to immerse oneself so thoroughly into another era as by studying Puppenstuben or Doll Rooms. The authentically furnished doll room illustrates furniture fashion trends, art and lifestyle For the owners of the museum, Gerda and Erich Rössler, the preservation of these miniature pieces of history has been their ultimate goal. Authentically furnished and decorated dollhouses, puppenstuben and dolls in original condition are an important document of time, even if the delighted museum visitors are not completely aware of this aspect. The 2007 exposition will feature Puppenstuben in the style of Biedermeier,
the Victorian, the Art-Nouveau and the Art-Deco of the twenties to the fifties
with a kidney-table and a gum tree. In ths range you will find too the mobile
home, a blue roof house and a summer-house by Gottschalk.
